Nintendo’s new 3DS looks Promising

The Nintendo 3DS has been out for quite some time now and a lot of people are actually loving it. The dual screens coupled with a Stylus pen made it really unique. Also, with the advent of R4 3DS cards, the Nintendo 3DS got a boost when it comes to its functionalities.

There was some news that circulated on the internet about a new and improved version of the Nintendo 3DS. This new 3DS sports a much powerful hardware than its predecessor and it packs a lot of graphical prowess as well.

In this article, I will be talking about what makes the new Nintendo 3DS portable gaming console great and if you should consider buying the new one or stick with the one you have now.

To help you know more about the new Nintendo 3DS, here are the new specs:

  • ARM11 CPU: 2x MPCore/2x VFPv2 Co-Processor at 268MHz. Doubling to 4x MPCore/4x VFPv2 Co-Processor for new 3DS with 804MHz max clock.
  • ARM9 CPU: ARM946 at 134MHz
  • GPU: DMP PICA at 268MHz
  • VRAM: 6MB, 10MB for new 3DS
  • DSP: CEVA TeakLite at 134Mhz. 24ch 32728Hz sampling rates
  • System memory: 128MB, 256MB for New 3DS

The new Nintendo 3DS sports a new ARM11 CPU with an additional “co-processor” that has a clock speed of 268 MHz. The maximum clock speed that the new ARM11 CPU is capable of is at 804 MHz.

This is actually a very big upgrade to the previous generation 3DS because it is 2x faster and more powerful. This means that whenever your portable gaming console runs an application, for example, it will run it even faster than the old hardware.

The GPU of the new Nintendo 3DS also received an overhaul. It now has the new DMP PICA GPU that is clocked at 268 MHz. This kind of graphics processor is not new and is, in fact, present for many years now. But I know why Nintendo opted for this GPU. It is because of its power.

You see, the DMP PICA GPU is a very powerful GPU that is used in portable gaming consoles. Expect to have better graphics across the board.

It is also worthy to mention that the new Nintendo 3DS portable gaming console now comes with twice the RAM than the previous version. If you’re the type of person who wants to run multiple games at once, then the new Nintendo 3DS will definitely suit you.

The VRAM and the CPU work heavily in unison to present you with a snappier portable gaming console. The CPU is now a quad-core processor which is clocked at 804MHz and the VRAM is now at 10MB. I can imagine some great gaming titles that will make good use of the new hardware.

There is still no news about R4 3DS cards that will support the new Nintendo 3DS, but seeing the trend now, it will only be a matter of time before manufacturers will have support for the new Nintendo 3DS.

So, should you buy the new Nintendo 3DS? For me, if you already have an existing Nintendo 3DS, you can stick with it. But, if you’re looking to buy a new portable gaming console, then by all means buy the new Nintendo 3DS. With a much powerful hardware and a future R4 3DS card support, you cannot go wrong with purchasing the new gaming console.
